Salvage Yard

Pittsburgh Pirates vs St. Louis Cardinals
Boggs didn't have a spectacular start

So the Cards managed to salvage another series as they won Thursday in Pittsburgh to prevent the sweep. Seems like we're making a habit of that - and I don't like it.

Boggs got the start and wasn't sharp. He allowed 11 base runners (9 by way of hit) over only 4.1 innings. However, he kept wiggling his way out of sticky situations and somehow only gave up 1 run. But our ever impressive bullpen saved the day with 4.2 innings of shutout ball. Most importantly, the scoreless 9th was thrown by Franklin. And though it was not a save situation, it was still reassuring to see him work a perfect frame after his disappointing performance last time out in Cincy.

Offensively, the Cards were able to put 5 runs on the board. Five runs scored always looks a lot better when your pitching isn't giving up 9 or 10.

The first 2 runs scored on a 2 run shot from Colby that didn't landed in the Allegheny about 440 feet away. Turns out that was all we needed on this night. Pujols added 2 insurance runs on a real screamer up the middle in the 9th. (That was sarcasm.) And that was Pujols only hit on the night. Seemse to me like Mr. Pujols has been in a little slumpie lately. I'd be a fool if I was worried though.

The Cards come home tomorrow to start a 9 game homestand playing 3 each with Milwaukee, the Cubs and the Royals. This is going to be an important 9 game stretch.

Do you think the young guys will hold up and get us into the playoffs this year? How many rookies do we have on out team? Three fourths of the candidates for rookie of the year this year wear the Birds on the Bat.

Anyway, lets sweep this 9 game homestand and make an even 10 game winning streak. Sound good? Good.

  1. The Cards have had as many as 10 rookies on the team this year, most in the majors. Way to work that free-agent market Mo...yes, this was my daily sarcastic remark. Still trying to figure out that Trevor Miller deal... Go Twins!
