Opening Night... even though the Cards don't play until tomorrow afternoon, my fantasy players start accumulating stats tonight, so that's good enough for me.
No real news today... Cards beat Memphis their last two games of the spring by scores of 13-1 and 7-3 and really got a chance to loosen up and have a little fun.
In the first game, Tom Pagnozzi's nephew, Matt Pagnozzi, also a catcher, began the game playing for Memphis, and then finished the game with the Cards.
In the second game, the Cardinals pinch hit for Yadier Molina in the eighth. 'What's so unusual about that?' you might ask. Well, the hitter called on to step into the box in place of Molina - Jose Oquendo. Yes, that Jose Oquendo. He worked a walk in his lone at bat.
It's nice to see the Cards going into the season having some fun. They also ended the spring on a strong note winning five of their last six. It's only Pittsburgh in the opener. Let's get this season started with a W. Hope the guys didn't get too used to Florida - the high tomorrow is 39 and snow is a possibility.
Wainwright vs. Maholm - 3:15 tomorrow
Go Crazy.
Oquendo pinch-hitting? What's next, Tony back at short? Duncan behind the plate? I'm telling you, MO will look for paycuts anywhere he can!
